Letter From the Founder
Dear Friends of Lorenzo’s House,
This year began with an ambitious plan. I launched Lorenzo’s House to see if we could help families living with younger-onset Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In my own private experience as a carepartner for my husband Lorenzo, I recognized a need. There are many of us, but the resources designed for us are few and far between. While I knew there was an unaddressed need – the response these past seven months exceeded my expectations. The inquiries from families, enthusiasm from professionals in the field, and the interest from many others to get involved demonstrates that our ambitious plan to empower families living with younger -onset Alzheimer’s and other dementias, is a gap we need to fill.
This cause chose me. With Alzheimer’s comes a stigma, isolation, suffering and darkness. I became determined to design a model that shifts this narrative and helps families find acceptance, community and light as they face this journey. Families everywhere seek quality resources for their loved one, safe and supportive spaces for their children navigating their parent’s condition – and a common connection for care spouses to exchange insights. Lorenzo’s House has found its niche and until a cure is found will be relentless in our quest to empower families everywhere living with this diagnosis — so that we face this journey united, never alone.
Lorenzo’s House is a nonprofit social impact organization offering an innovative resource model to as many families as possible regardless of profit – so this means that we need your help. We are actively searching for individuals, foundations and corporations for seed funding. Our first phase is our 100 Days of Light Campaign. This is the first time that we have asked people to stand with us and give to our mission. We have 100 days left in the year to reach our goal of raising $150,000, and you can help us bring light to each of those days by donating.
As a celebration of our first donors, we’ll be hosting an ‘Evening of Lights’ event on December 1st – more details to come. Too many families who are living with a younger-onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis and/or other dementias feel awash in darkness. Every bit of light we bring is transformative. If there is one thing I have learned over these past months, it’s that so many people are waiting to find a way for the sun to shine on them in this journey.
Please consider giving to Lorenzo’s House and bring light to families everywhere.
