The Brightest Day

This date in the Alzheimer’s community is referred to as The Longest Day – and at this summit, we call it – The Brightest Day, because together we bring light.

WHAT IS LORENZO’S YOUTH SUMMIT?

A free single day virtual event that will unite tween, teens and young adults across the country who are living with a parent/guardian diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s or other dementias.

We will exchange caregiver strategies at Lorenzo’s Summit, expand our brain health knowledge, share pieces of our common stories, and build out our growing youth alliances.  There will be time for raffle prizes, doing cool art, laughing, and maybe even healing some.  Most importantly, it’s a time to build an alliance with one another because we are sharing a similar journey and can help each other.

WHY LORENZO’S YOUTH SUMMIT?

Our life at home turned upside down when my Dad was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s. I understand how tough it is for families to live this disease. I lost so much of my dad it seemed like overnight and no one understood my new life. My mom decided to start Lorenzo’s House out of the love she has for my Dad, my brother and me. It’s a place where families can heal and those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias can get really good and interesting care.

As an extension of Lorenzo’s House, I suggested to my mom that we create a place for youth, specifically those with a parent diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s. Too many young carepartners, with a parent or guardian diagnosed are alone, quietly struggling and need support. This is the roots of Lorenzo’s Youth Summit: a place where youth come together – to be united, heard and inspired.
